DYSLEXIA AND OFFENDING

Our work with dyslexic offenders aims to significantly reduce re-offending. As many as 50% of the prison population are dyslexic and we believe this can be changed.

Working alongside prison, probation and youth offending services, we provide staff training, computer based screening, mentorship, and multi-sensory learning opportunities.

At Voices from the Margins we beleive that self worth and the ability to gain meaningful employment are key to tackling the reduction in re-offending rates.

Dyslexia - Changing perceptions

This 9 min video was produced by Mike Juggins, Voices from the Margins very own artist and film-maker.

He was asked to write an article for the British Dyslexia Association 2009 Handbook. Mike, who is himself dyslexic, wrote the article on the insistance that the piece be available in both visual and auditory formats.

Mike's piece is hard hitting and calls for positive change regarding the issue.

You can access the article here in whichever format suits best.

team work

By enabling dyslexics to learn through creative, practical and supportive engagement, they are able to learn new skills, build confidence and raise self-esteem.
